Bob Dylan and Suze Rotolo

The album cover of “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan” (1963) is iconic. The intimate snapshot showed the 21-year-old genius strolling down West 4th Street with his girlfriend/muse, artist Suze Rotolo. Flush with folk-y love, they just look cool. Bob and Suze met at a Greenwich Village cafe in 1961, and quickly discovered they both loved leftist politics, Rimbaud, and banjos. “I couldn’t take my eyes off her,” Dylan revealed in his memoir. “She was the most erotic thing I’d ever seen. She was fair skinned and golden haired, full-blood Italian. A Rodin sculpture come to life. We started talking and my head started to spin.” Yeah, yeah, yeah, but that didn’t stop him from cheating on her with Joan Baez, which broke them up after three years.
