When Ellen Pompeo opened the door to her celebrity Los Angeles Homes, she unveiled a complete top-to-bottom makeover creating one of the most charming famous mansions in Los Angeles.
The History behind this mediterranean-style villa started in 1929 when Paul Williams, a famous architect which also designed the house of Frank Sinatra and other elite satrs, started working on this California Luxury Home for Antonio Marino Junior a silent film star from the 1920’s. During the years the house was almost striped to its core of its original architectural elements, but despite that Ellen still managed to see the potential of such a relic and together with Designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard they embarked on what it became a 4 years journey.
Ellen Pompeo and Bullard resolved to give the building its original charm, by seizing the opportunity to rethink everything from spatial plan to materials and finishes. The final result was a dwelling full of whimsicality, there is definitely an warm energy in this house, the scale, the over size pieces but you just feel this is a family home. Everything was done in a casual relax way so you have the feeling that the family uses every single piece, nothing is just too precious or too expensive to touch, this house is about living and enjoying the space and family time.
When it comes to the children, both rooms are vibrant and colored schemed with a lovely and happy feeling. In the nursery there is a shocking-pink crib, and a collection of paper hanging lamps in different shades, while in the other room there is just as polychromatic but slightly more grown-up, with a blend of wildly patterned fabrics and furnishings by Missoni Home.
One of Ellen’s favorite rooms in the house is the dining room. The interior exudes an enormous tranquility even though it is full of ambiguities. The wood wall panels in contrast with the classic contemporary style furniture, creates such a spectacular space.
Ellen Pompeo’s personal style is her love for classic things and also her love for art. She is draw to any artists and designers that take chances.
The leopard room was inspired by Madeleine Castaing, a legendary and a cult figure of the interior design scene that had a wild eclectic style. Known for her love of leopard-spot wall-to-wall carpet and plastic flowers, Madeleine Castaing vision on furniture was that it should be simply part of the art of living, something to be happy with something to sit on and discuss literature and Martin´s Leopard room for Ellen Pompeo is a true homage to that style.
It is the second time that the designer and the actress have worked together. In this project you can just see that every room in this house was designed and thought has a giant piece of art. They confess that they obsessed in every single corner and that is why there is so much love in this house.
